Hygienists are responsible for disease prevention including decay and gum disease, as well as educating the patients on how best to care for their mouths at home. They also treat both the early and advanced stages of gum disease working alongside our dentists to provide a comprehensive approach to maintaining your oral health.
Services they provide include professional cleaning – a scale and polish – to remove plaque, tartar build up and staining that regular brushing can miss, as well as oral health education, gum health assessment and treatment such as sealants and fluoride applications.
Generally, we recommend hygiene work to be carried out every six months however certain circumstances may require more frequent appointments – this will be tailored to your own requirements.
